What is Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy?
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) is a holistic healing art that blends ancient yogic wisdom, contemporary psychology, meditation and supportive touch with the belief that within you is an innate intelligence and ability to heal yourself. This is a non-diagnostic approach to therapy that uses your body as an anchor to experience what is happening in the present moment and bring awareness to how that may connect with your life. Each session ends with an integration meditation to help you translate your newfound awareness into a concrete and meaningful action step. Flexibility, strength, fitness or involvement in a physical yoga practice is absolutely unnecessary to receive the benefits of this transformational work. The only thing required is your presence.
Transformational Bodywork & Present Moment Awareness
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy differs from traditional bodywork in that there is no intent to massage, directly fix or change symptoms of pain, misalignment or injury. During a 90-minute session, I move your body from one assisted posture to another in a supportive way. The postures themselves are simply doorways to enter deeper levels of self-realization. Dialogue is used throughout the session to invite you to notice whatever is present in your body/mind/spirit and to welcoming whatever arrives with curiosity and love. Every thing you hear in response is a neutral reflection of your own words. I am here to help you receive yourself.

My job as a practitioner is to create an environment of safety so that you can enter into your inner realm of consciousness and explore whatever is there. Wherever the session takes you, I will be right there with you, offering supportive touch and unconditional positive regard. This form of yoga therapy is unique in that it is non-prescriptive. I am here to share profound presence free from judgment as you unlock your story and find your own guiding wisdom.
PRYT & Working with the “Edge”
Your body holds the memory of all of your traumas, false beliefs, joys, celebrations and undigested experiences. What shows up in your body is often a mirror for what is happening in your life. We all do things to avoid experiencing discomfort. Often, this avoidance unconsciously directs our actions and can keep us from living in alignment with who we really are. Through movement and touch you may be brought to a place of mild therapeutic discomfort or sensation known as an “edge” where you can choose to stay, breath, and share whatever is alive with you in the moment. This is not a place of pain, it is simply a place of emotional, physical or psychological sensation. When you feel supported at an edge, it’s easier to notice your patterns and to physically, mentally and/or emotionally release whatever is holding you back. As self-acceptance moves in you can make friends with the whole range of your experience—from sadness, fear, insecurity and rage to excitement, love, compassion and more. Each PRYT session is ripe with the opportunity to develop mindfulness, and reveal your most authentic self.
What should I expect after a session?
You may continue to gain insights and further awareness as well as experience emotional/psychological release for a few days up to several weeks after your session. Some clients find it helpful to carry and use a journal during this time. This is a great time to practice self-care and reach out to trusted friends and family to support you with whatever is coming up for you. You may also notice a feeling of being “stretched” in various areas of your body. This feeling is normal and should dissipate in the next day or two. Schedule a follow-up sessions within a week or two of your session to deepen your self-exploration, awareness, and relationship with your own guiding wisdom.
