Who is Artemisia Shine?

ArtemisiaMeditatingSunGlair

That’s me! That’s me! I dance with the roles of Intuitive Healer, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist, Reiki Master, Counselor,  Hatha Yoga Teacher, coyote medicine maker, and mother to a wild and wonderful spark of amazing named Bodhi Shine. I am a warm-hearted, inquisitive, passionate, earth loving yogi-tantrika living in San Luis Obispo County, California.

I LOVE helping people listen to and honor the longing and intelligence of their hearts. Most precious to me is being an ally for my clients as they reconnect with their innate body-wisdom and live in enthusiastic alignment with their soul-level desires. Watching them fall more in love with themselves is the icing on the cake.

Coyote is kin.
Words are magic.
Earth is mamma.
Mantra is living fire.
Ocean is remembrance.
Yoga is how I come back home.

I spend most of my time working one-on-one with people: holding their stories of pain, joy, reverie, trauma and wonder. My biggest job is to be a compassionate loving mirror. Nothing is more precious than the trust and revelation of another tender soul as they come home to themselves and actively seek to live a better story. My joy filled mission is to support the awakening of ever more sri (radiance, splendor and beauty) in the hearts of those who live in my community and far, far beyond! I live and breathe to unlock deep avenues of healing in my community and myself. My work on the planet is in service to creating a fuller expression of love and wonder within me and within you…

I worked with kids teaching Environmental Education for over 13 years and my favorite “super hero” is still Ranger Rick. My love of sharing nature inspired my studies in Natural Resources Interpretation and Recreation Administration at Humboldt State University. Even though I’ve set aside the Environmental Educator hat (for now…) I’ve joyfully retained my youthful sense of wonder.

I was invited to my first yoga class in 1998 held at a community center in Southern California. I knew nothing about yoga or yoga philosophy but delighted in how delicious my entire being felt after each practice. Eager to try out some of the poses at home, I was excited to discover I could easily relieve tension and discomfort in my body. I fell in love slowly and deeply – this is a lifetime engagement.

ArtemisiaBodhiBeachBack then I swapped homemade recycled paper pressed with wildflower seeds in exchange for each class. Over the years, I’ve cleaned studios, worked front desks and shared skills in trade for yoga classes. I strongly believe in reciprocity and am equally ardent that yoga be accessible for all.

Yoga has helped me navigate life’s more perilous occasions with some semblance of grace. Lest I forget it, my son likes to remind me that I am “a lot more fun to be around” when I am living my yoga. Yoga has helped me to breathe and observe what is happening inside my body. I am grateful for the peace of mind and presence this cultivates. My practice on and off the mat challenges me in ways my soul desperately needs and continues to help reveal that which is not me. I go within to witness the sensual, alive, passionate pulse of love that I am.

Being human is a joyful and intrepid adventure! Yoga helps actualize the love I have within to shine more fully each day.

I am forever indebted to my many teachers who have supported me on this path, including: Chrisandra Fox Walker, Katie SilcoxDarren Main, Pete Guinosso, Peggy Profant, Jeremy Simon, Dina Amsterdam, Jehfree Spirit, Jodi Komitor, Maya Cooper, and Karen Harris.

In my free time I can be found snuggling up my son and friends, preparing delicious raw and cooked vegan food, wandering barefoot, drinking excessive amounts of herbal tea, meditating, playing with AcroYoga, enthusiastically writing in the margins of incredible books, falling madly in love with banana slugs found on trail, and laying naked by wild rivers soaking up the radiance of the sun.

i want to be like a california coastal live oak,
strong, adaptable, made to handle intense heat, able to live – in fact thrive – when hollowed out completely by lightning strike or fire

i want to be like an oak,
transforming cavities into nesting ground for downy owlets, baby raccoons and more… offering habitat and food for hosts of woodland dwellers

i want to be like an oak,
thick waxy leaves reflecting the radiant sunlight, maintaining moisture from within, solid roots providing stability for the soil, drawing nutrients and water from the energetic depths of mamma earth.

Intuitive Healing and Mentorship

It was a cloudy morning as I strolled in to meet Artemisia for my heart opening session. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but as is usually the case when I see Artemisia, I had no problem being confused, lost, and vulnerable; and as she hinted to ahead of time, she prefers her clients that way.

I was greeted with a warm, genuine smile, and was asked to make myself comfortable as she quickly prepared some tea. She then sat before me, and began. I said almost nothing the entire session, but looked on with tears in my eyes as she described what she saw within me.

I cant imagine what I experienced during that hour and a half to be anything like what another may experience, so without going into details might be able to summarize my experience by saying: if there were other times in my life where I felt so understood, so accepted, so 'seen' for what I know is in me, I cannot, at the time of this writing, recall, and there seems to be something fulfilling to having been acknowledged in such a way.

We finished my session with me lying down; tears welling with my emotions laid bare. Artemisia patted my heart as she asked me what would help me to find comfort and nourishment. I told her a salmon dinner and yoga in the sun, then we said goodbye, I walked out to my bike, and rode off to buy some salmon as the last clouds drifted south, leaving a beautiful blue sky and a bright, sun-shiny day.

She is nothing short of mind blowing! Her insight is breathtaking. She has the ability to see my true self; the embodiment of my greatest potentials. She heard the call of my destiny, and provided practical suggestions to help me tune into my wisdom. She looked deeply into parts of myself that live in the realm of spirit and imagination, empowering me to embrace things I was afraid of. Fear was blocking my development as an individual.

She confirmed visions and dreams I have with such great accuracy! Having that confirmation fills me with courage. Now more than ever, I feel the courage to live the light of my personal truth. Her affirmation is such a gift! To illuminate hidden aspects of my personality that desperately want to emerge; she helped me to see my pathway so clearly. She is very in touch with the invisible and tangible realms of existence.

That was the most exciting hour and a half of my life! Thank you for guiding me to my heart. It feels so amazing!! Your gift is undeniable and I wish everyone I love could be blessed by it. Thank you for opening yourself to be a vessel for the cosmic communication that is all around us and inside us. xoxoxo

I started to take Artemisia’s classes in the midst of my last stressful semester at Humboldt State University and I couldn’t have chosen a better time (except SOONER). The welcoming and encouraging atmosphere of the class coupled with the radiant beauty (inside and out) and positivity that seemed to nearly explode out of Artemisia has cultivated feelings inside of me that I had never experienced before. I would leave class literally glowing.

After weeks, not only did my physical body feel amazing (in great shape feeling strong and able) but my attitude and outlook on myself, those around me, and the world was also transforming. In one of the first classes I took, she said to us, “The one you’re looking for is the one who is looking.” That statement has changed my life and has taught me that I am complete in every single way and I have everything I need inside of me to do whatever it is I need to do in life.

Artemisia’s classes always have underlying messages that help immensely with everyday life situations. Her class is more than a workout for your body, it is an uplifting experience that inspires you to delve into your mind and spirit. Artemisia is one of the most amazing human beings I have ever met, just thinking about her awesomeness brightens my day and reminds me of all the things she has taught me through her yoga classes.

Artemisia is one of those beings who is very adept at surrendering and allowing these wise energies to take shape and meaning though her with ease. Artemisia effortlessly feels through the silky stands of colors, words, images, and experiences and gently combs them into form. She honors them and then begins giving them a true expression.

She is non-judgmental and without expectation and that grants her access to a fuller pallet of what is in the moment with us. Artemisia holds all of what is available to her in equal respect and lets it shine and share.

As she reads, she weaves and mends, pets and strokes, loves and cares for the gathering energies. She is re-patterning the person she is reading for. It is healing to be seen without judgment, to have your tender energy witnessed and handled with care and shared back with you. She is watering the thirsty plant of her client’s deep heart. I see them perk up, sit straighter, open their hearts more, align with their greater truth, fall more in love with themselves.

After a session with Artemisia you can walk away feeling like you are a big Yes! Yes! I am beautiful. Yes! I am contributing to the world. Yes! It is good to be me. Yes! It is good to shine. Isn’t that what the world needs more of? Each of us being in the fuller Yes! of who we are?

I first found Artemisia's wonderful classes via Yoga for a Cause at Om Shala Yoga in Arcata. I was drawn in by the cause, which is Artemisia leading a class to raise money for a local charity. I was really pleasantly surprised by her personal attention to each student, and how she came by and gently moved us into the best positions.

There is something really special about a yoga teacher that cares, and I can really feel the love when she places warm eye pillows on our faces (yay! so nice!), or helps guide our movements with reassuring words.

Possibly the best part of her classes are these great philosophical jewelz she weaves in, for example, "As you are sweating and struggling remember - you are love having a human experience." And bam, I'd be reunited with my intentions and saved from losing pure focus on love.

I love the way she teaches and lives, blessings!

I am so pleased with Artemisia's class! It is up there on my very favorite things that I have ever done. It was perfect. Impeccable. The rest of my evening after went really well too. Something about me was different in a really good way in my class at the dojo. I know its just a small step on a very long path, but I am glad I took it and very grateful Artemisia was there to show the way. She is an excellent teacher.

I felt as if I was being cradled in the womb in candlelite hot stone yoga. It was the best experience I've had in a yoga studio.

Artemisia's session was a profoundly warm event. Getting to be one on one with an amazing healing woman was such a good experience. Her energy immediately soothed and warmed my heart and brought me into a safe space. Through her visions, she revealed myself to me. There are certain images and messages that the heart is trying to send and Artemisia listens. Skeptics beware, she will turn you upside down. The images and dialogue shared with Artemisia has been continually helping me heal and figure out my life path since our first session. A beautiful experience, from a wise healing lady. I highly recommend this. It's hard to describe without experiencing it for yourself.

Finding words to relate my experience with Artemisia is like trying to describe a dream or an intense psychedelic experience. It’s almost beyond words. She was able to look inside me, into the dark corners of my heart and shine some light in areas that I’d been overlooking. I felt them, I knew of their presence but for one reason or another I had my blinders up. At the time I was feeling sort of hung up in my spiritual practice. It’s like I was ready for the next step, but wasn't sure what that was. In the end what we uncovered was that I was simply trying too hard. Studying and watching the clock when what I really needed was to let go, to trust in my heart, my intuitions and the wisdom that I've acquired in this life and in lives past. Her insight and her ability to transcribe that insight is truly graceful, heartfelt and inspiring. I want to share an intimate part of my experience now, that it may benefit you on your journey through life. My Sankulpa or Intention; “I see only beauty in my surroundings and it is my quiet strength which nourishes me and holds up the universe.” Much Love!

It is great to be in Artemisia's presence- she is strong and confident and I feel like I am in good hands with her. I trust her advice and her knowledge of yoga. I know I had a unique yoga session and I can say it was exactly what I hoped for. I wanted to clear up some alignment questions and she did that. Artemisia helped me correct some things and helped me to more fully and beautifully express myself in poses. She also added in some great tips for assisting/adjusting students!

Resting in the deep peace brought on by a powerful soul retrieval that occurred in my first Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy session with Artemisia Shine. What a beautiful healer you are! Thank you a million times for holding such a full loving space and lending your skill and gifts to my healing process. This session was amazing, and you have such a natural way of facilitating and witnessing. I am so relaxed in my self. Thank you, we did great work together. Namaste. I love you.

Sanskrit/English Poses

“The vibrational purity and resonating power of Sanskrit is above all an opera on a grand cosmic scale that you can sing with your whole heart and being.”  ~Vyass Houston

All of life resonates at a specific vibration.  Sanskrit is considered to be one of the oldest languages on earth, comprised of sacred sounds of rhythm, melody and harmony. The Sanskrit names for the physical asanas, or yoga poses, were crafted to reflect the essential nature of that which they describe. The seed sounds, or bijas, that make up each Sanskrit title for a particular yoga pose, carry a unique and intentional frequency. Perfect pronunciation of these bijas resonate with the essential vibration of the universe itself. To call an asana aloud in Sanskrit while aligning yourself in that particular posture is a tangible way to deeply explore the energy of that pose while unifying sound and physical sensation.

I invite us all to welcome more Sanskrit into our lives!  🙂

I offer below a work in progress – I am compiling a list of yoga poses with their corresponding English names.
♥ I will update this as time allows. ♥
